Golden Yiddish Translations
For many families and communities, their history is buried in letters, books and recordings in the Yiddish language. Once the dominant language of millions of Jews, it is not always easy now to find people who can translate and contextualize the voices of our ancestors.
That’s where I come in.
My name is Zach Golden, former Deputy Yiddish Editor for the Forward, and co-founder of the Der Nister Downtown Jewish Center. Over the years, I’ve gotten hooked on translating letters, poems and articles, constantly learning just how fantastically broad and deep our civilization is, how beautiful the turns of phrases are in the language. I am here to share my passion for Yiddish with you through my Los Angeles-based translation service.

Zach
I began learning Yiddish in my senior year of high school from Cantor David Kane (z’’l), a Holocaust survivor from Poland. Most recently, I worked for the Forverts for three years writing in both English and Yiddish, and translating from Yiddish.
I’m a native of Long Beach, CA, graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and became an ordained rabbi through the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at American Jewish University in Los Angeles. I am executive director of the Der Nister Downtown Jewish Center in Los Angeles.
